The Point de Vue Guesthouse, Rabat, Malta
The Point de Vue is located in Rabat, just outside the Silent City of Mdina, the old historic capital of Malta.
The Hotel was established in the 17th century and is a small family run guest house, restaurant and bar. Guests of the hotel can benefit from a great location and also spectacular views from the restaurant and many of the rooms.
During World War II, the hotel was used as an improvised control tower for the nearby RAF base at Ta’Qali. Some British pilots were stationed at the Point de Vue and sadly, a stray bomb during many of the raids on Ta’Qali airbase, landed just outside the hotel, killing a number of aircrew. British veterens and their families still visit the Point de Vue to remember the friends and family they lost.
In September 2005, the property was taken over by the Abela-Shandler family. The family has roots both in Malta and South Africa, and its African roots has provided the inspiration on the African twist of the Butcher’s Grill menu. The family’s passion for old buildings and Malta’s history has provided the backbone for the much-needed restoration works on the property.
