Information

Description:

Selmun, near Mellieha, Malta

Selmun is an area just east of Mellieha and north of Xemxija.  The area has an abundance of natural, archaeological and historical heritage, accessed along a heritage trail.

The heritage trail winds through terraced fields to the sheer cliffs at Ghajn Hadid, where you will come across one of the many fortified defensive towers on Malta’s coastline.  Along the trail are numerous archaeological sites yet to be excavated, including tombs, Roman, pre-historic sites and more examples of the unexplained cart ruts cut into the rock, found in other areas of the islands.

Selmun Palace is a baroque building built as part of a small hamlet comprising six farmhouses.  The area is currently being restored by Mellieha Council with funding being provided by the European Union and will ultimately house an information centre and multimedia display about the Selmun area.
