Key points about this news item Ta' Qali chosen as location for Malta racetrack

Malta could have a racetrack located at Ta' Qali

Description:

Ta’ Qali identified as best location for Malta race track

For many years, motorsport enthusiasts in Malta have been calling for the development of a racetrack on the island and now some progress appears to have been made.

Ta’ Qali which already has the National Stadium and the National Park has been identified as the most suitable location for the development of the track, following a call for proposals by the government. The area is already designated as an area for sports and recreational facilities and it is intended that the track would provide not only a national race circuit, but also educational facilities for driving tuition.

Five proposals were submitted and Parliamentary Secretary for Sports Chris Agius, confirmed that the Ta’ Qali proposal had been chosen as the most suitable. Further studies are now under way to select the best materials, particularly from the point of view of noise deadening.

The promise of a racetrack for Malta has long been on the political agenda and has been a Labour Party manifesto pledge for many years. Considering we are just weeks away from an election, this may all simply be a vote gathering exercise. But let’s hope that finally the next government takes action and gets on with this project.
